Bio
Dr. Guy Ziv is an associate professor in the Department of Foreign Policy and Global Security at 51²è¹Ý’s School of International Service and associate director of 51²è¹Ý’s Meltzer Schwartzberg Center for Israel Studies. He teaches U.S. foreign policy, international negotiations, and courses on Israel.

He is the author of several books including Netanyahu vs The Generals: The Battle for Israel’s Future (Cambridge University Press, 2024) and Why Hawks Become Doves: Shimon Peres and Foreign Policy Change in Israel (SUNY Press, 2014).

A recipient of multiple teaching and scholarship awards, including the SIS 2024-2025 Scholar-Teacher of the Year, Dr. Ziv brings a policy background from Capitol Hill and NGOs focused on Israeli-Palestinian peace. His work appears in both scholarly journals and major news sites, such as The Boston Globe, CNN.com, Haaretz, The New York Daily News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and USA Today, and he is a frequent commentator on reputable media outlets including BBC, Bloomberg TV, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, Sky News, and Voice of America.

Guy Ziv teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses on U.S. foreign policy, the Middle East, and international negotiations. His current research focuses on foreign policy decision-making, the influence of think tanks in U.S. foreign policy, and the role of political elites in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Ziv has a background in policy, having worked at the U.S. Department of State, on Capitol Hill, and for leading non-profit organizations that promote American involvement in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking. Ziv's the author of Why Hawks Become Doves: Shimon Peres and Foreign Policy Change in Israel(2014). His written works on the impact of Israel’s nuclear policy on U.S.-Israel relations; Israel’s strategic partnership with France in the 1950s; learning in foreign policy; and the role of leaders’ personalities in foreign policy change have been published in peer-reviewed, scholarly journals. His op-eds have appeared in both American and Israeli newspapers, such as The Baltimore Sun, Haaretz, The Jerusalem Post, Newsday, USA Today, and Ynet News, and he writes a blog for the Huffington Post. He also has been quoted in major media outlets including U.S. News & World Report, USA Today, and Al Jazeera.
